Bolingbrook Community Information

Bolingbrook offers more than 30 publicly operated parks, with several more in planning phases. Facilities include playgrounds, picnic areas, ball fields, a sports complex, trout farm, aquatic facility and even a fitness center and spa. The park district also manages classes and activities for all ages, from dancing to rock climbing to arts and crafts.

The Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm offers the opportunity to fish or just enjoy the lush scenery. A variety of animals frequent the site, including deer, fox, beaver, heron and raccoons. Even if you miss the animals, you’ll still be able to enjoy the vegetation. Wildflowers and dense and varied trees create a beautiful setting year-round for visitors to enjoy. Guided tours of the entire site are available. For those who prefer to enjoy nature in solitude, the nearby DuPage River Greenway is a popular route for bikers, walkers and joggers.

Golfers will enjoy two local public courses, the Bolingbrook Golf Club and Boughton Ridge Golf Course. Boughton Ridge is known to be especially challenging because of the number of water hazards and sand traps. Bolingbrook is a favorite, voted into the “top ten you can play” category by “GOLF Magazine.” The course was designed by Arthur Hills and features open fairways, fast greens, 14 water hazards and several bunkers.

For more golfing options, one may take a short drive into Wheaton to the Cantigny Hills Golf Course. The facility features three nine-hole courses – Woodside, Lakeside and Hillside – which can be combined into three different 18-hole combinations. The Woodside/Lakeside combination is known to be the most challenging of the three, and was placed as Number 66 in the “GOLF Magazine” “Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S.” in 1998.

Cantigny Park, however, offers much more than golf. The estate was once the home of Colonel Robert R. McCormick, the publisher of the Chicago Tribune. There are two museums on site, the McCormick Museum and the First Division Museum – plus 15 acres of kept gardens and an activity area for children and adults. The McCormick Museum displays Col. McCormick’s Beaux-Arts style home and its collection of antiques and artifacts from around the world. The First Division Museum commemorates the history of the First Division of the U.S. Army. Either destination offers an interesting glimpse into local and national history.
